WTCHC MENTAL HEALTH AMBASSADORS
As part of the legacy of late club member Calvin Bishop, Wisbech Town Cricket & Hockey Club is launching a programme to introduce a number of Mental Health Ambassadors within the club.
On Sunday 29th September 2024 WTCHC will be hosting a Mental Health First Aid Day, which will qualify fourteen of our club members to become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) and advocates under the title of Mental Health Ambassador, whilst opening up the conversation around mental health within the club.
The day will be run by Dick Moore, a former Headteacher, Housemaster, and rugby coach, who sadly lost his son to mental health, and now talks to students, businesses, and sports clubs about the important of mental health, and what can be done to support friends, team mates, and colleagues. You can learn more about the work Dick does via his website at https://www.dickmoore.org/about-me.
Club member Jen Shippey will also be on hand on the day to provide additional help and support, and signpost mental health services in the local area.
There are some club roles that WTCHC plans to tie in with being mental health advocates - such as our Chairs, Vice Chairs, Club Captains, and Welfare Officers - but we would like to open the day up to anyone else in the club who is interested in becoming a Mental Health Ambassador, and securing their MHFA qualification.
The day is also open to anyone who already holds a MHFA qualification and wishes to become an Ambassador, and the club will also be opening up the discussion to any members or family members who want to provide their feedback, or share any other ideas about things the club can do around mental health. This can be in person, or via an anonymous MS Form which will be shared in due course.
Anyone interested in attending the Mental Health First Aid Day on Sunday 29th September 2024 is asked to get in touch with Jo Gomm either in person, or via jogomm.WTCHC@outlook.com
