WTHC ENJOYS PRESEASON SUCCESS

Wisbech Town HC Ladies 1st XI enjoyed a perfect preseason ahead of the new league campaign, which begins on Saturday. Jo Bland’s side secured a 4-2 win against Spalding earlier this month, with Izzy Pope bagging a brace, before travelling to King’s Lynn-based Pelicans HC last weekend, where four-goals from forward Jo Gomm helped Wisbech pick up a 7-0 victory.

The Ladies 1st XI begins the new league season with a trip to Cambs South on Saturday, their first game in the East Area Women’s Division 1 North following promotion last year.

There was also success at LynnSport for Wisbech Ladies 2nd XI, who ran out 4-1 winners against Pelicans; Sam Pritchard (2), Emma Baker, and Lou Sandall all finding the net. The Ladies 2nd XI host Spalding 3rd XI on Saturday (12PM) for the first league game of the year.

Wisbech’s mens sides were also victorious at the weekend, with the 1st XI putting in a solid performance to beat Long Sutton 5-3 at Harecroft Road. Forward Jamie Hallatt scored twice, and picked up an assist, during the win.

Following a league restructuring, the Mens 1st team was also promoted during the summer, and while new captain Charlie Baxter acknowledged that the departure of predecessor Scott Welcher, and midfielder Dan Martell, had removed two important players from the team, he hoped it would provide an opportunity for the club to bring through some of it's exciting young talent during the upcoming Men’s Division 1 North campaign, which begins with a trip to UEA on Saturday.

A resounding 12-1 win for the Mens 2nd XI against Ely provided a significant confidence boost ahead of its Division 3 North West opener against Cambs South 3rd XI this Saturday (1:45PM), while the 3rd XI beat local rivals March 2-1 thanks to goals from Jason Thomas and Bradley Burton. The 3rd XI opens its league account away at Bourne-Deeping on Saturday afternoon.

Ladies 3rd XI and Mens 4th XI took part in an intra-club game last weekend, providing both sides with an opportunity to field some new players ahead of the league start, which will see the Ladies travelling to St Neots, while the Mens 4th team host St Neots on Saturday (3:30PM).
